FAQs

Find answers to key questions about home or business air conditioning and commercial refrigeration.

How does the ‘My Air’ Home Hub control system work?

‘My Air’ Series 4 gives you customised remote control of your air conditioning system and much more from your smartphone, tablet or computer. You can even install motion sensors in up to 10 zones depending on the degree of fingertip temperature control you prefer. My Air sensors detect an empty room and reduce the airflow to save energy.

As if that isn’t cool enough, you can operate all your WiFi controlled household systems though a My Air 4 Home Hub – reticulation, intercom, lighting etc. AND you can also stream music, check the weather, download a recipe and so on and on.

My Air 4 is the ultimate in tech savvy household and climate control.

What is reverse cycle air conditioning?

Reverse cycle systems are refrigerated systems with a reversing valve that changes the direction the refrigerant gas travels in your system. In cooling mode, hot air is pumped outside, and in heating mode the hot air is pumped inside. These systems also have a dry mode to remove moisture from humid air, and a fan mode, which is great for circulating and cleaning air on milder days.

What temperatures do you recommend?

We recommend operating on 22 degrees in winter and 24 degrees in summer. Every degree that you increase in winter or decrease in summer changes your energy use by 10%.

How do inverters work?

Inverters make your system more efficient. They maintain constant room temperatures, reach desired temperatures faster and operate more quietly. We recommend top quality Daikin inverter systems.

Standard inverters

Standard inverters operate once the room reaches your desired temperature. Limited inverted technology then maintains this temperature for uninterrupted comfort and more efficient operation.

Premium inverters

Premium inverters continually adjust their cooling and heating capacity to suit room temperature. They reach the desired temperature faster, and adjust their energy consumption to maintain that temperature.

Fixed speed systems

Fixed speed ducted air conditioning delivers a fixed amount of cooling and heating. On start up, power increases gradually to 100% capacity. The system cycles off once the set point is reached

Do you have an air conditioning system that helps people who have respiratory conditions like asthma or hay fever?

All our premium ducted reverse cycle systems have a Purtech triple layered electrostatic filter installed as standard. These filters catch up to 30% more dust particles than standard single layered filters.

The Daikin range of wall mounted split systems and air purifiers are the only systems endorsed by the National Asthma Council of Australia. Their excellent multiple air filtration systems are fantastic at expelling microscopic dust particles and odours and deactivating air borne bacteria and viruses.

What is the difference between ducted reverse cycle, wall mounted split and multi head split systems?

Ducted reverse cycle

This is the ultimate air conditioning system providing total comfort throughout your whole home. We customise the system to meet your needs, with a variety of diffusion options and advanced zone (comfort) control options. The indoor unit and flexible ductwork is concealed above the ceiling. Conditioned air is delivered to each room through a ceiling vent. The condensing unit is outside in a suitable location.

Wall mounted split systems

Wall mounted split systems can be installed almost anywhere with no need for ductwork. They provide air conditioning to a single zone and are available in cooling only or reverse cycle. We select a system to suit your room size and décor. We would love to show you our range of awesome options including very sleek designs to compliment the coolest interiors. We can also recommend WiFi enabled systems controllable from anywhere.

Multi head domestic and commercial split systems

Multi head split systems provide air conditioning in multiple zones, without the need for ceiling space and ductwork. Domestic and light commercial settings can have up to 9 indoor units connected to one outdoor unit. High end residential and commercial VRV applications can have up to 64 indoor units per outdoor unit.

These economical systems save space and improve outdoor aesthetics.

Customise your indoor units to suit; for example a quiet low capacity unit for a small bedroom and a higher capacity unit for a living room. Choose from a range of indoor units: high wall split, floor splits, ceiling cassettes, ducted, mini bulkhead ducted and more.

What are my other air conditioning options?

We can show you lots of other options as part of our complimentary design consultation. These include; evaporative air conditioning, ceiling cassettes, floor mounted split systems, mini bulkhead ducted systems, air purifiers, commercial ventilation systems and much more.

How often should I service my system?

Regular air conditioning maintenance will improve energy efficiency. We recommend

  • Cleaning filters at least every 3 months by hosing them out clean side first
  • Keeping your outdoor unit clean and clear from obstructions A 10% blockage in your outdoor condenser coil will cost you approximately 10% efficiency inside

Talk to us about an air conditioning maintenance program, or let us advise you on how you can look after the basics yourself.

How can I design my home to maximise comfort and energy efficiency?

There are lots of ways to build an eco friendly home that still keeps you cool and warm efficiently. Here are some of our top tips:

  • Maximise your roof eaves: the wider the better
  • Choose a light roof colour. Avoid charcoal coloured Colorbond or tiles
  • Consider double glazing or a similar treatment for glass in your east and west facing windows to reduce heat load or loss
  • Check the R rating of the insulation in your roof, ceilings and framed walls; the higher the rating the better
  • Install a whirly bird on the roof – a cheap solution to help keep your home cool
  • Use the latest lighting technology – most Australian homes could halve their lighting energy usage
  • Select good window treatments including blinds, awnings, curtains and tinting
  • Plant a tree, they provide good shade, enhance your landscape and help the environment
  • Investigate energy efficient building products

How can I improve my home’s energy star rating?

Consider reverse cycle air conditioning over portable gas. Reverse cycle systems cost approximately half the price of gas to heat the same sized room. The heat loss or gain required for gas systems reduces your star rating by about one star in many homes.

If your building contract includes a gas bayonet, install it in the alfresco area for a patio heater.

How do I manage draughts?

Here are our top tips for controlling and taking advantage of draughts:

  • Draught proof established homes by sealing air leaks around doors and windows
  • Minimise draughts by closing doors to unused zones. The My Air control system will remind you to close off unused zones
  • Take advantage of draughts and sea breezes by opening doors and windows for ten minutes to flush out hot stale air before turning on your system
  • Incorporate cross ventilation to make the most of a fresh breeze
